This passage reminds us of the great comfort of our God in times of trouble.

      The outline:

      1. God comforts us so that we can comfort others. v. 3-4
    2. We understand our suffering better by understanding the sufferings of Christ. v. 5
    3. There is comfort in knowing others have suffered as well as you. v. 6

    Causes of emotional suffering:

A sense of injustice. Job 19:7 - “...There is no justice.”

Frustration. Job 19:8 “...I cannot pass”

Loss. John 11:35 – Jesus experienced loss.

Bereavement. 2 Sam 18:33 – David grieves Absalom

    Remember Frank on Good Friday

    March 28, 2018

    Remembering Frank...

Frank Bartholomay was a sincere Christian man who always called himself a “loner”. He did not like crowds, nor did he like attention. This very unassuming man was a member of our Church for many years. He and Brenda were a part of the community life of the Bible Fellowship Church of Denville.

On Thursday before Easter we have a tradition in our church of having a Passover demonstration and talk about the last Passover of our Lord Jesus, and the significance it has for Christians today.  My wife sets up a series of tables in our Sanctuary and it looks like a dinner setting for about 30 or so people.  It is a very beautiful...

    New Sermon Series: Suffering

    February 18, 2018
One of the most serious questions in life and Christian faith is the question of suffering. There are so many aspects to to this question, and so much confusion about it that I thought it might be a good time to approach the issue and provide some expository sermons on the subject.

It is a difficult issue to deal with, but with God's...

    "Choosing Elders and Deacons"

    November 9, 2017
In the Bible we see the Apostle Paul appointing Elders in the various Churches he established. In terms of the Deacons, Acts 6 indicates that the Deacons were chosen by the people - "choose seven men from among you who are known to be full of the Spirit and wisdom." Acts 6:3
In terms of the Elders of the Church, the choosing process is...

    "Elders in the Church"

    November 4, 2017
Eldership in the Bible Fellowship Church is patterned first of all from the Scriptures. 1 Peter 5:1-4; 1 Timothy 3:1-13; Titus 1:5-9; and many other passages of God's Holy Word.  We are about to vote as a congregation on two men... one to become an Elder and the other to become a Deacon. We are particularly blessed as a congregation to have...

    Psalm 103

"The Lord is merciful and gracious, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love." September 30, 2017
I, for one, am very glad that our God is a loving and gracious God. In Psalm 103:10 it says "He does not deal with us according to our sins..." - something else to be grateful for! In Christ we see the grace of God fully laid out before us. That we have a Savior who takes our sins upon Himself, and welcomes us to have fellowship with Him. I am...

"The Tongue... a World of Evil..."

    September 17, 2017
    James 3:6

"The tongue also is a fire, a world of evil among the parts of the body. It corrupts the whole person, sets the whole course of his life on fire, and is itself set on fire by hell."

Whoa! We are ALL in trouble! We say things unthinkingly, or out of anger, and can be the cause of great harm and pain.

    James 3:10 "Out of the...
