Eldership in the Bible Fellowship Church is patterned first of all from the Scriptures. 1 Peter 5:1-4; 1 Timothy 3:1-13; Titus 1:5-9; and many other passages of God's Holy Word. We are about to vote as a congregation on two men... one to become an Elder and the other to become a Deacon. We are particularly blessed as a congregation to have some very Godly men who are allowing God to use them in the service of the Church of Jesus Christ. It is my joy to be a Pastor of a fellowship of believers where there is joy and enthusiasm for the Gospel of Christ.
Leadership in the Church is described in Scripture as more of "who you are in Christ", rather than "what you do." By this I mean godliness is more important than being able to accomplish tasks. In the outworking of the Gospel in the lives of Biblical leaders, God's purpose is accomplished on this earth. It is the Biblical pattern. Men of faith, full of wisdom and desire to fulfill their calling, build His Church. The accomplishment of important tasks in the life and community of believers is fulfilled when the leaders of God's flock submit themselves in total surrender to the King of Kings! And those accomplishments may not be what leadership sets out to do in our "5 year plans." It may be something entirely different. It may be that God brings hope and wholeness to many people in the congregation of believers through the selfless leadership, under direction of the "Chief Shepherd", and lay their lives down for others. This is the beauty of Biblical Leadership in the Church.
